Couples Therapy
Two Sides. One Conversation.
Every relationship moves through seasons — some easy, some strained. Couples therapy at Parkhill offers a structured, neutral space for partners to slow down a conflict long enough to actually hear one another. Whether you’re working through a specific rupture, navigating a major life change together, or simply want to strengthen a relationship that’s “fine” but could be closer, our couples therapists help you build the communication tools and mutual understanding that lasting partnership requires.
Signs You May Benefit From Couples Therapy
- Conversations often turn into arguments, or arguments never quite get resolved
- You feel disconnected, distant, or like roommates rather than partners
- Trust has been broken and you're trying to decide what comes next
- You're facing a major transition together — marriage, a new baby, a move, blending families
- One or both of you tends to shut down, withdraw, or avoid hard conversations
- You want to strengthen a good relationship before smaller issues become bigger ones
Our Approach
We draw on established couples-focused frameworks — including Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method — to help partners identify the cycles that keep them stuck and replace them with patterns of genuine understanding. Rather than assigning blame, our therapists work to surface the needs and fears underneath conflict, helping each partner feel truly seen by the other. Sessions are collaborative: both partners are active participants, and the therapist’s role is to guide, not referee.
What to Expect
Couples sessions typically begin with each partner sharing their perspective on what’s bringing them in, sometimes followed by individual check-ins to understand each person’s history and needs more fully. From there, sessions focus on specific patterns and skills — communication, repair after conflict, rebuilding trust, or navigating a shared decision. Sessions run 50–60 minutes, generally weekly or biweekly, and can be held in person or via teletherapy so both partners can attend regardless of schedule.
